Gabriel was born and raised in Brazil. He attended Oberlin College, earning his bachelor's degree in chemistry and biochemistry. During his time at Oberlin, he worked on the synthesis of small-molecule inhibitors for rhomboid proteases under Dr. William Parsons and on computational organometallic chemistry under Dr. Shuming Chen. Additionally, he was a summer research fellow at UT Southwestern under Dr. Myles Smith and at Caltech under Dr. Sarah Reisman, working on total synthesis and method development projects, respectively. Gabriel joined the Reisman Group for his PhD with an interest in the interface of synthetic and computational organic chemistry. Outside of the lab, Gabriel is an avid sports fan—especially of soccer—and loves visiting amusement parks to ride thrilling roller coasters.
